Over the last year I have been working on building a new travel website based on two of my great passions, camping & whisky. The aim was to design a Scottish Campsite listing website with a clean and simple interface that can become the one stop shop for anyone looking to camp in Scotland, www.CampingScotland.com is the result.
So far we have listed around 200 campsites which in itself took a rather long time. Each campsite had to be researched and categorised with tags to help build the filter functions. Scotland has around 500 campsites however a large chunk of these are caravan club sites, static home sites, glamping sites or limited for tents. Our new site is focused on campers with tents and campervans so from that 500 we have identified 300 sites in Scotland of a good quality that are perfectly suited for tents and campervans, we expect to reach the 300 listed sites by the end of the Summer.
We have taken our time to create the website with care however with any new website there could be errors. We would love for you to report any of these errors through the "report error" function on the website. The intention is to modify the website as we go, incorporating further filters and giving regular blog posts on camping, whisky and the great Scottish outdoors.
As you know I love whisky and couldn't help but incorporate this into the Camping Scotland website. To do this I have created a whisky camping section where you can select your favourite whisky region and see a list of all distilleries (with visitor centres) and campsites within that region. We intend to create some whisky camping trips in the blog of the new website to make it easy for those looking for a pre-planned whisky camping adventure.
The website is free to use and open to all and would love for you all to have a play around and let me know what you think. For the campers out there that read my blog I hope this becomes a great resource when planning a camping trip and for the whisky fans the map is a great way to explore all the different distilleries you can visit in Scotland, even if you don't plan on camping.
